General Clinical Schedule

Students at all sites will report when instructed and will discuss their schedules with their respective clerkship site directors. Students must complete a total of 8 shifts. Each shift will be 8 hours at each site. Students will be required to complete 2 overnight and 2 weekend shifts throughout the clerkship.

Site directors have the final word in shift allocation and assignments.

  • Clerkship Week 1: 8-hr clinical shifts Tuesdays and Thursdays, possible weekend/overnight

  • Clerkship Week 2: 8-hr clinical shifts Tuesdays and Thursdays, possible weekend/overnight

  • Clerkship Week 3: 8-hr clinical shifts Tuesdays and Thursdays, possible weekend/overnight

  • Clerkship Week 4: 8-hr clinical shifts Tuesdays and Thursdays, possible weekend/overnight


Site Rotation Characteristics

The below are rotation characteristics that are unique to the site.

  • MSH: Students at MSH will see both high and low acuity patients and have the opportunity to complete one specialized shift working primarily with critically ill patients. They may also have the opportunity to do up to ONE pediatric EM shift (though not required).

  • MSM/MSW: Students have the opportunity to see a variety of levels of acuity, including critically ill and pediatric patients.

  • ELMHURST: In addition to seeing both a higher and lower acuity level of patients, students have the opportunity to do one specialized shift working primarily with critically ill and trauma patients.

  • MSQ: Students have the opportunity to see lower acuity, critically ill, and pediatric patients throughout each of their shifts.

  • 9am-12pm Orientation lectures

  • 12pm-1pm Lunch

  • 1pm-5pm Asynchronous learning modules on Blackboard
