# Medical Student Research Office

All MD students are required to meet with the **Medical Student Research Office** within the first semester of medical school to gain an understanding of the research landscape and how they can find different opportunities and get involved. Joining Specialty Interest Groups, NEXUS Opportunities and Professional Organizations are also avenues for finding research projects.

By graduation, MD students must complete one scholarly project. Many students will choose to work on this project during the summer between 1st and 2nd year.

**Medical Student Research Office (MSRO) Mission**

* To help you develop critical thinking skills and express creativity and intellectual independence
* To promote awareness of short or long term research programs
* To assist in identifying a research mentor
* To help locate research stipends and/or funding
* To offer you training, education and consultation of research related skills

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://ismms-md-program.gitbook.io/career-and-professional-development/explore-options/medical-student-research-office.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
